No electrical energy is used in the making of Nicaraguan hammocks, with the exception of the recycled aluminum ring, which is melted in an oven to give it its rounded shape. These two rings, called "Guardacabos", are handcrafted from the cast iron of disposable cans. Positioned at the ends of the two hammock arms, they are used to hold and reinforce the ends of the hammock, ensuring its stability.
